𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡, a solo show from Meredith Donnachie. @meredithdonnachie
𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 is Meredith’s first solo show, exhibiting a selection of intimate works that use bright colours, hand-drawn cursive text, and a naive, kitschy style to convey adolescent nostalgia and a poignant sense of vulnerability and longing. Meredith’s work takes reference from an eclectic mix of source material. Influenced by a high-low mix of old films, reality television, and celebrity culture in both Old and New Hollywood, lyrics from love songs, religious symbolism, and heightened emotions. Made on the backs of pharmaceutical, makeup, and food packaging, they embody the feeling of being in one place and dreaming of being in another. This yearning of adolescent pop culture mixed with Meredith’s diaristic honesty creates a world that is emotionally vulnerable, familiar and witty in its self-awareness.

‘’𝗔𝗻𝘆 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆’ presents* an ambiguous diaristic collection of works. The images and objects are rooted both in memory, and semi-imagined understanding of built environments.The paintings are primed with clay or painted directly onto old curtains.
They are studies of found objects taken from various salvage sites, and ornamentation on buildings. The collection of things the works are based on includes: a tiny notebook from the 1800s, an old painted glass door from a tenement found in a salvage warehouse, window ornamentation on a terrace, and a piece of public art in Pollokshields that says, ‘Beginning Ending’.’

𝑹.𝑨.𝑻. 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 ‘𝗔𝗻𝘆 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆’ 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵.
Join us for the opening night on the 19th of March, 6-9pm. Running from the 20th-22nd and 27th-29th of March, and by appointment during the week.
This exhibition will showcase a series of recent works on homemade canvas stretchers primed with clay. The paintings are studies of objects taken from various salvage sites, and ornamentation on buildings across the city. The source material includes a tiny notebook from the 1800s, an old painted glass door from a tenement, and the image of a ship I keep seeing in Partick, amongst other things.
In Glasgow, like other cities, 200 year old buildings are lived in by people today. Contemporary interiors sit behind old facades, and without access to archives we don’t really know who built everything. There is a history, but it feels inaccessible, almost as if it doesn’t exist.
The paintings play with this sentiment, and are intended to feel like artefacts from this speculative interpretation of a built environment.

The exhibition brings together a selection of film stills made or collected by each of the artists. Compiling iPhone pictures of movies on laptop screens, frames from Super 8 and analogue video tape, the show explores the possibilities of stillness by allowing these moments to exist on their own terms.

‘tear jerker’

Bradley Hudson
We have been so honored to facilitate Bradley Hudson’s first solo exhibition. It was such a pleasure to spend time with them and their work. With thanks to Zeo Fawcett for the exhibition text, and to everyone who came to the opening and visited the exhibition.
tearjerker is Bradley’s first solo show and features a selection of new work made during the fizzling of summer into autumn, a period when Bradley was drawn to the kitsch melancholy of the passing seasons. The works explore intimacy, love, loss, memory and queerness.
Bradley Hudson (b.2000) is a Glasgow-based artist working across drawing, painting and collage. Bradley’s work is largely autobiographical, featuring images and symbols that hold personal significance for the artist yet still offer emotional resonance to the viewer. Absurd, tender and darkly humorous, Bradley’s work reveals “how personal histories intersect with cultural mythologies to shape the spaces we inhabit, inside and out.”

Our second show in the space, ‘Travels and Travels’, by R.A.T. studio member Rhian Lloyd.
‘[(Thomas) Thissen wrote over two thousand stories on vellum leaves as part of a volume named ‘Travels and Travels’. After his death, (I.W) Greville maintains, the collection was discovered by a monk on a pilgrimage who sought sanctuary on the island during a storm. The monk returned the book to his monastery and it was bound in the order that it was found] [The work’s contents have been the subject of some debate, as although there are over two thousand stories in the collection none ever appeared to be completed.]
[I I separate the pages from the binding. I shuffle them like an unwieldy pack of cards and lay them out on the floor of my flat. I begin in the corner of the kitchen under the window and continue through the hallway, across to the bathroom and into my bedroom…While I am brushing my teeth I look at the pages laid out beneath my feet. I shall reimagine the effect for you now:’]

‘Smile Because it Happened’

Our first show Smile because it happened saw studio holders Maya Schønning Kjærulff and Matilda Reid fill the space with cropped photographs of laughs and smiles collected from a variety of entertainment sources. Divorced from their owners the smiles take on an unsettling quality, highlighting the strangeness of performing for the camera.
